daily bread

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and
do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.
Be not wise in your own eyes;
fear the LORD, and turn away from evil.
It will be healing to your flesh
and refreshment
to your bones*."

-Proverbs 3:5-8
*I love verses that mention "bones" for some reason; hence, my tagline or whatever.

The promise and the peace.

At the end of this post is a podcast sermon from Ecclesia Church in Houston, TX. Scott Erickson, a mutual friend I met through my brother, is the resident artist for the church and has worked with some other great artists across the globe. The message is entitled "Trust the Character of Jesus" and I hope it finds a place in you. The proverb at the beginning of this post is another verse on trust, one of many that the Lord keeps hammering upon my heart. I'm thankful for a God who works hearts and heads that hurt like mine.

musings

I want to share with you, whomever you are, some personal phrases that I've been meditating on over the past few months. I find they are drenched and cemented in bare bones truth although not all are quoted scripture. (Nothing replaces actual scripture, to be sure). They've helped this man's journey.

The swan songs of a dying self:

Thank you for your goodness, thank you for your grace.
It's not my job to worry.
Give me the grace to receive your grace.
I trust you.
Let your Holy Spirit increase to the fringes of myself.
Faith + Hope = Trust.
"Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness."-Psalm 37:3

I hope these practical, simple truths can possibly help you on your way, too.

green, green pastures

"If we could count the fears, both great and small, that once hounded us, and then thank God for each dread outcome that never materialized, we would reach no end of gratitude."

you are neither a good christian nor a bad one;
you are either trusting God or you are not.

all is vanity

"Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness."

-psalm 37:3

"I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live..."

-ecclesiastes 3:12

to do good is to trust;
to take pleasure is to be well-acquainted with grace.
